Radical Presence: Your performance in Art and Life

Wednesday February 8th, 7:00pm-10:00pm
$20 with preregistration, some scholarhsips available
For info and registration: anetriskelman@comcast.net
This workshop is training for performers and artists of any kind, and
for anyone wanting more creativity, spontaneity and joy in their lives.
Appropriate for all levels: the beginning explorer to the professional.
In facing the empty space/page/canvas, the creator often
experiences the fear that nothing will happen, instead of realizing
that, by the very nature of being there, something is already
happening. This simple act of bringing the awareness to what is
already happening, rather than to what is not--since that doesnʼt
exist anyway--frees creativity and provides a place to start.
You will practice direct skills training in:
- Moment to moment presence
- Alert Relaxation
- Radical Sensing--heightening the senses and observational powers
- Catching creative impulses & playing with them
- Expression using movement, spoken word and sounding
- Development of imagery, state of being, character and action
- Body based improvising using rhythm and energy
- Engaging the audience
- Using the expressive possibilities of the Architecture of Space
- Collaborating in Ensemble through yielding with energy
- Attaining joy as the basic performing experience
Anet Ris-Kelman is a multi-disciplinary performer who creates works
that range from image-based movement pieces to story narratives to
improvising with other movement and musician performers. She was
a professional modern dancer in NYC and LA, working with Daniel
Nagrin's improv company, The Workgroup, and The Rudy Perez
Performance Ensemble, among others. Her video art poems have
shown internationally and won a prize in the New York Short Film and
Video Festival.
Her quest for knowledge, authentic artistic expression, and an
understanding of the dilemma inherent in living in a human body/mind
has led her to study many different performance, somatic and
philosophical approaches. As well as studying many different dance
forms, she has studied Body/Mind Centering, Rudolf Laban's work,
Viewpoints, Action Theater, Clown, Yoga, Tai Chi, Buddhism, and the
shamanic teachings of the Sweet Medicine Sundance path. This
workshop continues to develop the work (now called 'kelman')
of her late husband, Scott Kelman, who ran 3 theaters in downtown
Los Angeles in the 1980s. She was his assistant for over 10 years.
Shaping True Story into Screenplay Workshop
Come with a Concept, Leave with a Logline
4-Hour Workshop
Sunday, February 19, 2012 1:00-5:00 p.m.
Only $40.00 with advance registration!
Many people have a true story they think would make a great movie. But not everyone can execute the screenplay. The trick is to get beyond the facts of what happened and find the larger, emotional truth of the story. The goal is to capture the dramatic essence of reality and transform it into art.
From The Killing Feilds to The Social Netwrok. From Apollo 13 to 127 Hours. From The Aviator to The Fighter. Films based on true stories have been entertaining audiences and wowing critics for decades.
Shaping True Story into Screenplay Workshop:
Come with a Concept, Leave with a Logline
We all know that a crisp and catchy logline can be a significant boon to pitching and shopping your screenplay to agents, actors, directors and producers. But a well-thought out logline can also help you write a great screenplay.
Whether you’ve written just one page or 120, this workshop will show you how to focus your autobiographical or biographical idea into its own unique dramatic structure. You’ll take home the tools to keep you on track as you write, revise and market the screenplay.
The workshop will cover:
- Finding the metaphor of your personal journey
- Translating real life into dramatic action
- Developing engaging characters from real people
- Shaping the plot along a story spine
- Choosing what to leave out in the interest of story
Join us to discover new ways to shape the nebulous clay that is real life into cinematic pages!
Start with an idea and end with a solid logline and a vision for your story!
